Overview
Before launching your products on Trade Me via Omnivore, ensure the following steps are completed:
Trade Me Account Set Up
- Create a Trade Me Account: Register for a Trade Me account with a username and password.
- Set Up Afterpay and Ping Accounts: You must have both an Afterpay and Ping account set up with verified withdrawal accounts to receive payments from sales.
- Obtain 'In Trade' Status: Ensure your account is marked as In Trade before listing products through Omnivore.
- Consider a Trade Me Store (Optional): While not mandatory, having a Trade Me Store offers benefits like Was/Now pricing and enhanced brand visibility. Learn more here.
- Bank Account Requirements: Australian sellers must have a New Zealand-based bank account or become an approved international seller. Learn more here.
- Understand Listing Allowances: The number of products you can list depends on your allowance. Note that multi-variant listings (e.g., a shirt in four colours) count as a single listing.
- Dropshipping: By default, Trade Me do not allow dropshipping. If you are a dropshipper you must apply for permission to list on Trade Me. Learn more here.
Connect Omnivore to Trade Me

Selecting Products to List
- Map Categories: Assign a Trade Me category to each product you wish to list. See Category Mapping for more instructions
- Exclude Specific Products: To omit certain products, either block them or refrain from assigning a Trade Me category. You can block products individually or exclude them by brand or keyword. Learn more here.
- Adhere to Trade Me Policies: Some items are restricted or banned. Review the list here.
Pricing Strategies
- Adjust Prices: Create promotions to modify prices for all or specific groups of products independant of your website.
International Sellers
If your eCommerce store's currency is NOT NZD then:
- Product prices: Prices on Trade Me are based on your store's base currency, excluding local taxes, converted to NZD. Orders are processed in NZD and converted back to your store's currency. Learn more here.
- Set Custom Exchange Rates: To avoid daily fluctuations, define custom rates under 'Settings > Currencies'. Learn more here.
- Add Offshore Seller Disclaimer: You'll need to inform buyers of your offshore status:
- Go to Settings > Trade Me > General then scroll down to the field 'Description template'.
- In the 'Description template' field, enter:
- $detailed_description (this includes your standard product description data)
- Start a new line by hitting enter twice then add the text you want to appear e.g. This item is sold by <Insert your store name>, an offshore business located in <your location>, and may incur NZ customs duty or tax. Find out more at http://trade.me/whatsmyduty
Managing Stock Levels
- Implement a Stock Buffer: To prevent overselling, especially with low stock levels, set a stock buffer under Settings > Administration. Learn more here.
Configuring Shipping Options
- Define Shipping Policies: Set up shipping templates within Omnivore. At least one default shipping template is required to go live. Learn more here.
- Shipping Types: Options include free shipping, multiple shipping methods per product, and weight-based shipping.
Size Charts
- Provide Accurate Measurements: If applicable, include size charts to assist buyers in selecting the correct product size.
- Create a Product Group then create a Product Action using the Create an Additional Image option.

Image Size Compliance
- Adhere to Image Requirements: Images must be a minimum of 500 x 500 pixels. Learn more here.
