Overview

eBay requires Item Specifics for listings in many categories. Without these mandatory details, you cannot create new listings, relist, or revise existing listings in those categories.

See the Item Specifics article in the eBay Seller Centre

Within the Omnivore app, there are several ways to apply Item Specifics. We recommend reading the entire FAQ to determine which method best suits your needs.

How To Tell If You Need To Provide Item Specifics

  • eBay LINK/Omnivore will show you which listings are impacted.
  • Go to 'Products - eBay Australia' then the tab 'Item Specifics'. You will see a list of products / categories that require Item Specifics.

Two Uses of Item Specifics on eBay

1. Search and Filter

Item Specifics help your products appear when buyers filter searches by attributes such as material, style, size, colour, etc. The available attributes vary by product type.

Example: If a buyer filters for a jumper with Material = Merino Wool, your product will appear in the search results only if you’ve added the Material attribute with the value “Merino Wool”.

2. Product Listing Page

Item Specifics also appear on the product listing page. Example: For a pendant, you might add have attributes like Shape, Colour etc.

Search & Find eBay Required Data

  • To identify the names of Item Specifics required for each eBay category (e.g., Style, Material), visit: https://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/item-specifics
  • To find the values that eBay accepts for each Item Specific:
  • Search eBay for the relevant category, for example: Women’s Jumpers
  •  Use the left-hand navigation filters to see the available options for each attribute (e.g., Material).
  • Once you know the Name and Value, you can add them to your product data on your website to ensure your listings are complete and optimised.

Following this method ensures your products include the correct eBay Item Specifics, helping them appear in filtered search results on eBay.

  • In Omnivore/eBay LINK, go to Products → eBay Australia, then select the Item Specifics tab.

  • You will see a list of products that require Item Specifics.

  • Omnivore uses eBay’s APIs to detect the Name(s) and Values required for each product.

  • For each required Name or Value, select the eBay Item Specific that best matches your product.

  • In the example below if you select 'Kits' then when people filter by 'Kits' on eBay this product will appear. Choose the best eBay value for your product.

  • Once you select a value from the dropdown it will be automatically saved.

  • You can then move on to the next required item specific or product.

  • To push immediate changes to eBay Australia, click Upload from the eBay tab on the Dashboard. If you do not upload immediately, the new data will sync during the next marketplace feed.

NOTE: We do not recommend using free text since ONLY the preset values in the dropdown can be used by buyers to search for products.

If you want to delete the Item Specific you chose then find that product, scroll down to the eBay Australia Product View section and under Custom Attributes click 'remove'.

Add Item Specifics via CSV in Omnivore

To add eBay Item Specifics via a CSV file go to Products - eBay Australia and click on the 'Item Specifics' tab.

Click on 'Export attributes to CSV'

This will generate a CSV file of all of your products and any attributes already entered.  You can edit this file to add any new attributes and to add/change values of existing attributes.

After making changes to your CSV file make sure you remove the first two columns which will have the headings 'DELETE FROM IMPORT'.  Also ensure that your productSku formatting is correct.

To upload your new CSV file click on the 'Import attributes from CSV' button on the Item Specifics screen.

Select the file you are wanting to upload and then click the upload button.

Add Custom Item Specifics Using Your Store Attributes

You will need to add the product attributes to your eCommerce store. Omnivore/eBay LINK will then import the data, allowing you to map them to eBay Item Specifics.

Step 1: Add Product Attribute Data to Your eCommerce Platform

  1. Shopify - use Shopify Tags in Shopify
  2. WooCommerce - set up with data mapping from WooCommerce
  3. BigCommerce - use the Custom Fields in BigCommerce
  4. Magento - set up with data mapping from Magento

Step 2: Map Product Attribute Data to eBay Item Specifics in Omnivore

  1. In Omnivore/eBay LINK, go to Products → eBay Australia
  2. Find the product you want to add custom attributes to and click the Product Title to open the full product details page.
  3. Scroll to eBay Australia Product View → Product Attributes section.
  4. On the left, you’ll see your eCommerce platform’s product attributes. Link them to the corresponding eBay Item Specifics. Example:

    • Type → Type

    • Firmness → Firmness

    • Material → Material

  5. Choose from the drop-down then click the green + button to save your changes.
  6. Do not worry if you do not have a dropdown option for your Item Specific, this just means that the specific you have will be sent to eBay without needing to be linked.

  7. Once you have finished mapping the attributes, go to your dashboard and click 'Upload to eBay' to update the product.

NOTE:

  • You only need to map a product attribute once; the system will automatically populate it for all other products.
  • To exclude an attribute from eBay, click the red ‘x’ button.
  • Attributes used for variations in multi-variant products will appear in the Product Attributes list but will not be sent as Item Specifics
  • If you don't have the required product attribute values that eBay requires, you will need to add them to your eCommerce platform.
