About Brand On Catch
If your product carries a brand name, it requires a valid barcode, known as the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). Catch does not accept products lacking a GTIN.
You can verify UPC / EAN / GTIN existence on the GS1 website at https://www.gs1.org/services/verified-by-gs1
Own Brands
If you manufacture your own products without GS1-issued UPCs, they can still be accepted under certain conditions:
- If your brand name is registered with IP Australia your products will be sent through for approval consideration.
If your brand name is not registered, you must meet the following criteria:
- Your brand name should appear on the first page of Google search results.
- Sellers must provide Catch with proof of production by providing photographs of their warehouse or manufacturing facility, design schematics, etc, that clearly show the usage of the brand name. Promotional images will not be accepted.
If both conditions are met your products can be submitted for approval by Catch.
To proceed, add your 'Retailer Name' to the 'Own Brands' section in Omnivore/CatchFeeder under 'Settings - Catch - General'.
- In Omnivore go to Catch - Settings - General.
- In Own Brand add the name of your Retailer Name
- Our example has the retailer name Pacific Label
- Click update on this settings page.
- Retailer name is the name that appears on the Omnivore/CatchFeeder Dashboard up the top on the green bar.
- Ensure the brand name entered for the products on your website / eCommerce Platform matches the value entered in the Own Brands field in Omnivore.
Products with a brand name of "Unbranded" or "Generic" will not be accepted by Catch. Only branded products will be considered for approval. Unbranded products will be rejected outright by Catch.
About MPNs on Catch
Catch will only consider the use of Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) under specific circumstances:
- MPN must originate from the manufacturer.
- MPNs are only accepted for certain product categories using MPNs as the standard identification method, such as:
Automotive parts (e.g., engine components, brake pads)
Electronic components (e.g., circuit boards, connectors)
Machinery parts (e.g., gears, bearings)
The brand name must be accurate for these items. - Self-created bundles are accepted if all products in the bundle have a GTIN or approved MPN usage as per the listed examples.
A few other important points
- There are no exemptions to these rules.
- Any existing products on Catch that do not adhere to these guidelines will be deactivated and removed by Catch.
- The use of Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) is a last resort and should only be considered if obtaining GTINs is not feasible.
- Sellers reselling branded products must obtain GTIN information from their suppliers before listing, and MPNs should not be used as a temporary measure while waiting for correct information.
- This isn't a guarantee that the products will be approved, simply that it will help pass the product data check stage. They will still need to be reviewed by Catch.
