eBay enables sellers to choose what type of category structure to display to buyers when they are browsing and searching within their eBay store.
eBay offers 2 options for this:
Store categories
Store categories are created by you and allow you to customise the organisation of your store to best handle the types of items that you sell. You can create as many as 300 Store categories and subcategories with up to three levels of categories; for example, a category named Sporting Goods, can have two additional subcategories: Sporting Goods > Golf > Balls.
If you choose this option but do not assign a Store category at the time the listing is created, those listings will appear in another category, named “Other items” that eBay will create for you.
Currently we do not allow you to map your products to custom eBay categories within Omnivore. However if you wish to do so it can be done manually. Instructions on how to do so can be found here: How do I set up custom categories in my eBay store?
eBay categories
You can organise your items according to the eBay categories in which you listed them. Using this option, the category navigation shown to buyers in the left-hand navigation of your eBay store will default to the eBay category hierarchy.
For sellers with a large number of listings, you may want to consider this option in order to save time for yourself.
