Overview

If you’re an overseas seller listing products on Trade Me and shipping them to New Zealand, here’s what you need to know:

GST on International Purchases

Since 1 December 2019, Trade Me is required to collect GST on all purchases made by NZ buyers from international sellers. GST is applied to the total cost, including the item price and shipping.

If you use Trade Runner, no action is needed on your end:

  • Trade Runner sends Trade Me the product price excluding any taxes from your home country.
  • Trade Me then adds NZ GST to your listing price.
  • Listings are created as Buy Now, with Ping and Afterpay as payment options.

More details: Tax and Currency Exchange.

How Your Pricing Is Determined

To understand how your product prices appear on Trade Me, refer to the above article Tax and Currency Exchange.

Currency Conversion

Trade Runner automatically converts your ecommerce store’s base currency into NZD.

If you want to adjust the standard conversion rate, see Setting the Currency Exchange Rate.

Information for International Sellers

If your ecommerce store currency is not NZD, please note the following:

How Prices Are Calculated

  1. Trade Runner takes the product price in your store’s base currency.
  2. Local taxes (from your country) are removed.
  3. The net amount is converted into NZD.
  4. Orders placed on Trade Me are in NZD and converted back into your store’s currency.

Full details: Tax and Currency Exchange.

Setting Custom Exchange Rates

If you don’t want to use the default daily exchange rate, you can apply your own by Setting the Currency Exchange Rate: Settings → Currencies → Set the exchange rate
