How to set your Shopify tax settings at a site level

If products imported from Shopify have incorrect prices or show the wrong amount of GST, it is possible that GST is not configured properly in your Shopify store.

If you sell products that include a GST component, your store settings should reflect this.

An example is provided below, but please check out the Shopify documentation for more info on Tax Settings.

Left menu bar, Settings (bottom option)

Select the Taxes menu option.

Then go to the specific country and click Edit if you have already set up some of the tax settings, or Set Up if you have not.

To set up tax for Australia please click the Collect GST button. You can add your ABN at the next point, but if you do not have it you can add this later. Click the Collect GST button on the popup.

To set up tax for New Zealand please click the Collect GST button. You can add your GST number at the next point, but if you do not have it you can add this later. Click the Collect GST button on the popup.

If your pricing on your website includes GST also ensure that you check the below option.

How to set your Shopify tax settings at a product level

After you have correctly set up tax at the store level you will also need to set it against each individual product.

This is required for your prices to work correctly with our platform even if you have defined a tax rate of zero.

For a single variant product, the checkbox "Charge taxes on this product" is right below the Price in the Pricing section of the main product screen, as shown below:

For products with variants, you will first need to go to the variant edit screen. You will need to click on one of the variants to open the next page.

Then navigate to the "Charge tax on this product" tick box as shown below. Tick or un-tick depending on if the product is to be taxed or not.

Click Save.

Once all the appropriate tax settings have been checked and changes saved, go to Omnivore  and run a full import, by clicking "Import from Shopify".

When the Import from Shopify has completed, check the pricing and GST on any product page within Omnivore.

Omnivore settings to check

If you have checked all of your Shopify tax settings and the price in Omnivore still does not accurately reflect your tax settings (inclusive or exclusive) you can navigate to Settings > Administration > Product Import Section in Omnivore.

On this page you can override the tax settings from the feed.

Ticking this highlighted tax setting reveals additional options that govern how we handle Tax coming from Shopify. You will need to tick the field, then click update on the page to save the settings.   This will show the options below:

If your prices in Shopify include GST and the price we show still excludes GST using this override option will fix your issue.

Changes like this will also require an Import from Shopify which can be triggered from the Dashboard.
