CALCULATIONS
This example covers an AU Seller selling on Trade Me with a promotion to adjust the price.
This seller is Shopify and has a mixture of products that include and exclude GST.
Using this example:
https://m1.omnivore.com.au/product/view?retailerCode=gtmdingo&sku=6800671670352
Things to note in this scenario:
- AU seller selling on NZD marketplace (Trade Me)
- Using a promotion that applies free shipping and adds a fixed dollar value to the price.
- Has this option ticked in Settings.
If they seller thinks the price is not correct and promo is not being added then check this first:
Using above product example.
- Sale Price is AUD$299.99, remove GST = $272.72
- Use exchange rate in place convert to NZD is AUD$272.72 x 1.078 =NZD$293.99
- Note this setting, therefore at this point we DON'T the tax back on.

- $293.99 + Add Promotion Amount, this case $43.
- TR amount is $336.99
- TR was actually showing an amount of $337.01, so allow for small variations.
- Trade Me list price is $387.54 as they add the tax on.
Summary Calculation: Remove tax from Sale Price, Convert to NZD if relevant, check tax settings and if not ticked as above add the tax on, add promotion value to NZD price, assess the marketplace price to check that they are adding the local Tax back on.
If the seller has products that do not have tax included the outcome and calc will be the same.
SPECIFICITY
Omnivore has rules around promotion specificity, this ticket here explains how it works in brief.
https://citybeachsoftware.freshdesk.com/a/tickets/140448
The front facing FAQ to sellers has a section explaining specificity in English.
Bottom line it does exist and it applies to promotions via some specificity rules in the code.
