Import products using a metafield

You can choose which products are imported into Omnivore from Shopify by using a metafield.

You can use a Shopify metafield to choose which products Omnivore imports. This gives you product-level control over what’s sent to your marketplaces. 

 

This can be useful in the following use cases:

  • Choose exactly which products Omnivore imports. Use a metafield to include or exclude products at the individual product level.

     

  • Manage large catalogues more easily. For example, import 10,000 marketplace-ready products from a Shopify store with 100,000 products.

     

  • Keep Omnivore focused on relevant products. Leave products you don’t intend to sell through your marketplaces in Shopify without importing them into Omnivore.

     

  • Use Shopify to control product eligibility. Update a product’s metafield in Shopify to change whether it meets your import criteria.

     

  • Support your existing product workflows. Use a metafield to reflect decisions such as whether a product is approved or ready for marketplace selling.

 

 How to set up 

  1. Create and apply a metafield in Shopify. Add a metafield value to the products you want Omnivore to import e.g 'true'. 

  2. In Omnivore, go to Settings > Shopify Feed > General and check the box for the setting: Import products based on a metafield.
  3. Below this setting, select Import Shopify metafields as additional product attributes. 
  4. Under Metafield status, choose how the metafield should determine which products are imported:
    • Must exist — import products where the metafield is present.
    • Must exist with value — import products where the metafield is present and has the value you specify e.g 'true'
    • Must not exist — import products where the metafield is absent.
  5. If you chose Must exist with value, enter the required value in Metafield value. The value must match the value set on the Shopify products you want to import. For example, if you enter true, only products whose selected metafield has the value true will meet the import criteria.
  6. In Metafield name, choose the Shopify metafield Omnivore should reference. 
  7. Save your settings. Check that the metafield is set up on your Shopify products in a way that matches the status and value you selected.
